Gender Equity in the Gymnasium: Tweaking One's Co-Educational Physical Education Program
For decades Title IX has included a requirement that most physical education classes must be co-educational. The law's requirements have not always meant successful, frustration-free compliance. This session will focus on the implications of Title IX for physical education classes, tools for evaluating one's program, and specific suggestions, e.g. curricular changes, elective offerings, inclusive language, gleaned from practitioners who have discovered successful methods for building positive learning environments in their co-education physical education programs. Strategies for evaluating one's curriculum, equipment, space, and delivery practices including feedback, inclusive language, and rules for behavior and games will be shared.
