Maximizing Training-Induced Metabolic Adaptations for Improved Sports Performance
Two basic questions that every athlete has include: 1) How can I perform at the highest level possible? and 2) What training program can I use to facilitate this process? Regardless of the training program used, coaches and athletes must have a comprehensive understanding of how the athlete produces, stores, and utilizes energy in the most effective manner. This presentation includes 1) a discussion of the four major energy systems (ATP; ATP/Lactic Acid; Lactic Acid/Oxygen; Oxygen), 2) training-induced adaptations that occur in the energy systems, and 3) examples of how interval training can be used to develop the energy systems.
