| Council leaders will report on activities of the council this year. Members are invited to suggest activities the council should undertake and volunteer their involvement. The Julian W. Smith Award recognizes an AAHPERD member who has shown significant attainment in adventure and outdoor education/recreation. This year’s recipient is Norman "Buddy" Gilchrest. His presentation, "The Power of Julian Smith's Classroom," will focus on the effectiveness of Julian Smith's classroom -- the outdoors. It utilizes Dr. Smith's concepts and the presenter's experiences and pictures to provide an introspective journey through the beautiful outdoor classroom that is available to educators and recreation leaders. |
