The Forgotten Transition Component: Recreation and Leisure Education
Recreation and leisure transition planning is often lacking for students with disabilities. Lack of leisure time physical activity has led these individuals to experience an early onset of old age, an increase in preventable health problems, and to live unhappy, solitary lives. This presentation will discuss the need for recreation and leisure transition planning along with who has the role of providing these services. Barriers to providing transition services with possible solutions will be presented. This presentation will conclude with a discussion of recommended future practices and a need for further research.
