Using Art and Artifacts as a Stimulus for Creative Movement
Using the Body, Space, Effort and Relationship Framework of Laban, this presentation will focus on paintings of Van Gogh and the use of antique agricultural implements as a stimulus for creating movement sequences for children's dance. Teachers will develop action word sequences based on the arts and artifacts as stimuli. Studying these paintings, participants will gain insight into the movements of reaping/slashing/cutting/thrashing during harvest. In addition, early tools will be displayed. From beginning to end these action words will be used to develop a creative movement sequence. Ideas for assessment through the use of a rubric will be included.
