| “I know they can do it, but how do I prove it?” – A Practitioner’s Approach to Using Qualitative Measurement and Authentic Assessment | ||

| Description | Teachers/practitioners are faced with the dilemma of assessing performance in areas that do not lend themselves well to traditional assessment practices (i.e., pencil/paper tests, checklists, surveys). Human performance researchers faced with similar concerns addressed the problem by incorporating qualitative measurement/evaluation techniques. Therefore, this presentation will identify qualitative measurement/evaluation practices teachers/practitioners can use to effectively and authentically evaluate and assess their pupils or clients. Practitioners will be introduced to qualitative inquiry including: (1) problem development and clarification; (2) qualitative measurement procedures; (3) data analysis; and (4) data interpretation. In addition, teachers/practitioners will be provided with examples of multiple assessment experiences/practical guidelines for beginning to use qualitative procedures within their setting. | |
