Online Assessment/Testing: Principles and Applications
StructureMeasurement and Evaluation Council
DescriptionNew developments in information technology and testing theory have made a new testing format, "Online Assessment/Testing," become possible. Online assessments bring many advantages (e.g., selecting/tailoring testing items to a particular examinee) and conveniences (e.g., providing immediate feedback and assessing higher order skills or persons with disabilities) to measurement practices. The Symposium provides an overview of state-of-the-art online assessment: its hardware/software, major steps in test construction, psychometric quality control, and practical challenges. A survey of current online assessment practices in HPERD is reported and two step-by-step application examples with the latest information technology and advanced testing theory are illustrated. Finally, the latest online version of FITNESSGRAM will be introduced and demonstrated.
