| Fundamentals of Pilates and Yoga to Improve Posture/Gait in the Older Adult | ||
| Jan Marie Schroeder, Sabrena Newton-Jarreau and Jill Ann Crussemeyer, California State University Long Beach, Long Beach, CA This session will provide an introduction to the differences in posture and gait observed within adults and older adults. Building on that foundation, the session will then help the practitioner understand the popular movement methods of yoga and Pilates for improving posture/gait. Although Pilates and yoga are different practices they both offer development and improvement of body awareness, balance, strength, and flexibility. To personalize an exercise routine for an older adult, limitations and modifications of selected exercises involved in Pilates and yoga will be offered. | ||
