Progressive Inclusion: Teaching Sport Skills Through Dance
Debra W. Knapp, New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, NM and Katherine J. Riggen, Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, MO

This participatory presentation will demonstrate the use of non-traditional/non-competitive innovative dance methods for teaching sport skills while concurrently providing a positive impact on inclusion. Movement Educators will explore activities for students with different abilities that will allow the students to explore their movement potential, adapt and create movements to meet the specific motor task. Adapted physical educators have spent a great deal of effort on the debate of appropriateness of placement rather than method of instruction. Inclusion necessitates more effort on the method of inclusion from the adapted physical activity specialists. This program provides such a method to facilitate program development to work toward progressive inclusion into physical education.
