Developing and Implementing an After School Program in Adapted Physical Education: Implications for Teaching, Research and Service

This presentation focuses on designing, funding, developing and implementing a university-based after school program in adapted physical education. Its content encompasses the following areas, all of which are considered significant in the typical university mission statement: (1) initiating and developing faculty and graduate student grant writing skills, (2) enhancement of (a) university students’ teaching, assessment/evaluation and decision making skills, and (b) clients’ cognitive, affective and psychomotor learning opportunities in alternative pedagogical environments, including cross-disciplinary and inclusive settings, (3) engaging in scholarly activity and research, including facilitation of intradepartmental cooperative projects, and (4) fostering university and community collaborative efforts.
