The STRENGTH Program and Go Girl Go!: NAGWS Nissan Grant Recipient Programs
This session presents a review of two programs that were supported by 2002 Community Action Grants by Nissan and NAGWS. The first, the Go Girl Go! project, provided 104 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls with a field day experience in which college students and coaches helped girls participate in sports activities and reviewed nutrition materials with them. The second program, entitled the STRENGTH program, provided six middle-school girls in an urban remedial disciplinary system with exposure to different sports activities, including volleyball, weight lifting, jump-roping, and soccer. Impressions shared by the girls who participated in both programs will be provided.
