AALR's Plenary Session: "The Challenges, Opportunities and Benefits of Outdoor Recreation and Education in Urban Areas"
The City of Philadelphia has nearly 10,000 acres of parkland. This public asset presents ecological and environmental benefits, as well as provides opportunities for creative and unique outdoor recreational and educational experiences for people of all ages and abilities. The appropriate utilization of our natural resources as outdoor classrooms and as socially stimulating settings can be an invaluable resource to all educators. This session will focus on examples of partnerships and collaborations between agencies within local government, public schools, universities, non-profit organizations and community associations. Specific program examples will include: Environmental Education, Special Events, Outward Bound and Community Service Projects.
