Exploring Certifications and College Degree Structure for Fitness Professionals
This session provides a review/analysis of fitness/personal training certifications and college/university models for professional preparation; particular focus directed toward college/university opportunities and involvement in the education/preparation of fitness professionals. Following formal presentation, roundtable discussions feature issues as: · What is the future for the fitness/exercise profession? · Are health/fitness certifications without an undergraduate degree adequate preparation to work in the fitness profession? · How can we better prepare undergraduates for professional fitness careers? · Is there a role for higher education in preparing professionals? · What should the degree programs be called? Participants are welcomed to bring examples of existing exercise science or fitness professional oriented programs within their college/university.
