Poetry in Motion - Enhancing the Literacy Connection
This active session will equip Dance Educators and Physical Educators with methods for linking writing, music and movement. Applicable for middle and high school classes, this session uses poetry by established poets as a stimulus for creating improvisational passages. These passages are then refined and framed to serve as small performance pieces for PTA evenings or school concerts. Extensions enable the participants to transfer skills from existing poetry to student-composed poetry. Individualization makes this an excellent unit for very special dancers with physical limitations as well as typical dancers. Noel Grady-Smith is NDA Dance Educator of the Year for 2001.
