Promoting Active Recreation and Wellness in High-risk Families
This presentation describes a joint University- Community program designed to promote physical recreation and wellness within low income families. The program aims to promote active play and family recreation as a means toward developing six aspects of wellness within each family including: physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and environmental wellness. The wellness benefits of physical recreation are introduced to children through a reading and discussion program of selected children's literature emphasizing physically active role models. Active recreation is promoted through weekly activity sessions designed to expand interest in various community recreational activities.
