NDA Dance Educators of the Year: Speaking the Language of Dance in Educational Settings
Join the 2002 NDA Dance Educators of the Year as they share their teaching expertise. Janice Plastino, 2002 NDA College/University Dance Educator of the Year, will explore ArtsBridge, California’s education model and the mission of including dance in the curriculum. Participants will learn dance/movement vocabulary (including World Dance) and ways to weave movement into specific educational settings. Mary Harding, 2002 NDA K-12 Dance Educator of the Year, will guide participants as they read from sources on body image, i.e. Ophelia Speaks (S. Shandler). They will be encouraged to write, learn sign language, and generate movement phrases based on concepts from these readings. Participants need not have a dance background to explore ways of integrating dance into the physical education curriculum, discussing student issues, and more.
