Enhancing Physical Activity and Motor Skills in Aging Populations
With an increasingly aging population, accelerated incidence of diseases common to older populations is expected. Sequelae of these disorders will lead to increased burden on the managed care and health care systems. In anticipation of this trend, public health agencies have increasingly focused on interventions to ameliorate these sequelae, as well as research examining the impact of healthy behaviors on function. This session will discuss findings and applications of research programs aimed at improving physical activity and motor skills of older adults: mental practice in stroke, physical activity in adults with stroke, and balance training in individuals with Alzheimer's Disease.
