Culture and Domestic Violence: Lessons from Puerto Rico and Russia

Domestic violence is a global issue that has an impact on the health of women and their families. Certain cultural characteristics may contribute to or discourage the occurrence of domestic violence incidents. This session will review the magnitude of, the factors associated with, the challenges, and recommendations for the fight against domestic violence for both Puerto Rican and Russian women. Domestic violence will also be analyzed from an ecological perspective and as a human rights issue. Two cultural groups from distant countries, but one common international theme, domestic violence, joining Puerto Rican and Russian women in the search for wellness.
