Stressors,Coping Strategies and Academic Performance Among College Students
Denyce S. Calloway, Carolyn R. Goode and Clarence Stewart, Howard University, Washington, DC

The purpose of this session is to provide information on common stressors among African-American college students, the coping strategies they use and the relationship to academic performance. The data presented is based on an interactive on-campus workshop that focused on the connection between academic performance, the dimensions of health and the identification of specific stress management techniques. The presentation will provide hands-on experience on a variety of relaxation and stress management techniques that may be utilized to cope with stressors common among college students. It is important for all of the professions within the Alliance to make the connection between academic success, the dimensions of health and stress and coping.
