NAGWS is delighted to have accomplished race car driver Lyn St. James as this year's luncheon speaker and 2001 Guiding Woman in Sport Award recipient. Sports Illustrated selected her as one of the Top 100 Women Athletes of the Century and Working Woman Magazine named her one of The 350 Women Who Changed the World between 1976-1996. Her athletic achievements include seven Indianapolis 500 starts in nine years, including six consecutive starts from 1992 to 1997, and being the only woman ever Named the 1992 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year. St. James set the world Record on a closed-course for women reaching 225.722 mph during the 1995 Indy 500 qualification weekend. She has held 31 international and national closed circuit speed records during the course of her 20-year career. St. James is also a successful entrepreneur. She is head of two for-profit businesses, Lyn St. James Racing, L.L.C. and Lyn St. James Enterprises, as well as her non-profit educational organization, the Lyn St. James Foundation. The Foundation was established in 1993 to provide leadership, vision, resources, and financial support in order to create an open environment for women's growth in automotive fields. |
