Designing Effective Physical Activity Interventions for Girls and Women
Purpose of this presentation is to summarize current literature regarding the characteristics of effective physical activity programming for girls and women. Secondary purposes include: 1) discussing the use of the social cognitive theory and transtheoretical model to guide intervention and evaluation activities at the community and school level and 2) delineating (with audience participation) future research areas of interest. Participants who attend this session will improve their understanding of sex-specific characteristics that should guide physical activity interventions with girls and women. Additionally, participants should better understand the process of designing physical activity interventions using theories of health behavior change.
