GirlSports Basics: Teaching Sports Skills to 5-8 Year Olds
This workshop is designed for physical educators, recreation and youth leaders who work with 5-8 year olds. Participants in this workshop will learn about Girl Scouts of the USA's new sports-readiness project, GirlSports Basics which offers girls the chance to develop their skills, confidence, and love of sports at an early age. GirlSports Basics is designed to teach girls the basics of locomotion and agility, throwing, catching, kicking, volleying, striking, batting, dribbling, and passing in a variety of engaging activities. The project was also designed with the recreational leader in mind– it requires very little prior sports knowledge; it can be used in a variety of settings; it is easy to implement; and most of all, it’s fun!
