Remembering Mabel Lee--20th Century Trailblazer for Girls and Women's Sport
This session will focus on the life and professional contributions of Mabel Lee, a self-professed "Bloomer girl". Ms. Lee began her career in the early 1900s and advocated for physical education and sport for girls and women. This program will trace Mabel Lee's philosophical changes regarding intercollegiate athletics for women and her reflections on the evolution of the profession. Our history provides us with a common memory of where we've been, what we value, and how we've arrived at our present state of being. Mabel Lee may have been the only physical educator in the 155-year history of AAHPERD to play a key role in celebration the 50th, 75th, and 100th birthdays!
