Equity in the Gymnasium– Coed Physical Education's Challenges and Solutions |
For decades, Title IX has included a requirement that most secondary school physical education classes must be coed. The law's requirement has not always meant successful, frustration-free compliance. This session will include specific techniques and practical strategies gleaned from skilled practitioners from across the nation and Canada who have found successful methods for building positive learning experiences for both males and females in coed physical education settings. Extensive handouts, filled with specific ideas and strategies, prepared in part through a grant from the American Association of University Women, will be available for participants. Tools for evaluating all aspects of coed programs and adding to teacher training program curricula will also be discussed. Positive outcomes rather than the venting of frustrations will be the focus of this session. |
