Establishing Tradition: Creating, Planning and Executing a University Based National Girls and Women in Sports Day
Creating school and community awareness and "buy-in" regarding the value of sport for women and girls requires participation and connection. Just "telling" people about the value of sport, is just that…"just telling." Involving people in the value of sport, particularly and specifically as it relates to those near and ear to them (i.e., their daughters, students, etc.), creates connection and “buy-in.” National Girls and Women in Sports Day provides an ideal participatory vehicle to facilitate that connection and “buy-in.” The model presented will include a planning timeline, task group foci– "to do’s," as well as highlights of the event outcomes.
