The Effect of Exercise Intensity on Physiological Parameters in Adolescent Youth |
This presentation will describe an 8-week research study using Polar Heart Rate monitors and aerobic training on 8th and 9th grade boys and girls. The students participated in actibities such as step aerobics, Tai Bo videos, basketball games, running and relay races and were instructed to keep their heart rates up between a set range that was programmed into their watch. Physiological parameters such as weight, height, resting heart rate, cardiorespiratory fitness level and percent fat, using bioelectrical impedence and skinfold calipers, were examined. Although the results were not what were expected, physiologically, the students gained the respect for physical educators, learned how much fun physical education can be and how easy it is to incorporate into their everyday lives. |
