Selection and Retention Strategies to Enhance Success of Sport Leaders |
This session examines strategies that can be used in the selection, mentoring and evaluation of sport leaders, whether administrators or coaches, professional or volunteer. Based upon current practices and actual case studies, an assessment of the steps in establishing a fair and consistent approach to engaging sport leaders includes 1) identifying organizational mission; 2) ensuring competency-based expectations are communicated; 3) establishing documented, consistent selection process’ 4) maintaining continuous competency-related assessment and feedback; and 5) providing support necessary to meet/exceed competencies. Employing these strategies in the selection, evaluation, mentoring and retention of sport leaders will enhance their success, and that of the organization. |
