The Perils of Character Education in Athletics
Much research argues that the teaching of character does not exist in athletics, whether it is youth sports, interscholastic sports, or collegiate sports. Even though the academicians and researchers say “it ain’t so,” the practitioners argue that such is not the case. They know that they teach character. Which is it? Does sport develop character and if it does what sort of character is it? New research will be presented that discusses the negatives and positives of sport on the character making process.
