How To Teach Orienteering K-12 |
Orienteering is an increasingly popular activity in K-12 Physical Education settings although many people still teach it as “map and compass” without mentioning the rapidly growing sport of Orienteering. The sport of Orienteering offers a “low key” form of competition as an alternative to traditionally highly competitive sports. This session will introduce the sport of orienteering and lead participants through a progression of activities for use in teaching orienteering. Participants will learn everything from how to make an orienteering control to planning events, drawing maps, teaching map and compass skills, and how to adapt Orienteering to urban environments. |
