Relationship of Childhood Growth and Motor Performance to Adult Lifestyles
The interrelationships of the development of motor skills, biological maturity, and body composition during childhood and adolescence and their influences on physical activities of adulthood will be presented. A follow-up study to the ongoing 32-year longitudinal Motor Performance Study at Michigan State University traces the influence of a developmental program of motor activities during childhood on the lifestyles of 284 adults who are currently in their early 30s to mid 40s. Variables such as motoric ability, body composition, body mass index, maturity level, and sports participation in high school are presented as predictors of activity levels in adulthood.
