Fitness Programs for Older Adults: Training Workshops--Exercise and Falls Prevention Intervention Program: Assessment and Training |
Day 1
The researchers are principle investigators in an exercise and falls
prevention intervention program targeted at 100 residents (73+ years old)
of a retirement community. This session will combine research review and
practical application where participants will learn how to administer
assessments and appropriate exercises. Comprehensive testing for balance,
strength, walking gait, physiological and psychosociological measures will be
demonstrated. Group and individual education to prevent falls and a
structured exercise program focusing on strength training, balance and gait
training, and cardiovascular conditioning will be discussed. Demonstration of some novel testing and exercise training equipment that has been developed for this project. |
