Older Adults and Frail Seniors: Exercise Programming and Holistic Health
This is a split program with the first part focusing on programming for frail seniors. This program will identify specific guidelines for developing successful exercise and wellness programs for frail populations. Barriers to resident participation will be identified as well as specific strategies for removing these barriers. Programs that will motivate residents to take an active role in maintaining their optimal health in body, mind, and spirit will also be discussed. The second portion of this session will describe the holistic dimensions of wellness (physical, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social) as the audience participates in activities (fitness assessments, dance, challenge activities, and relaxation techniques) that target each of the wellness dimensions that are appropriate for older adults.
