Skillfulness in Context |
In this session, the audience will be asked to examine their existing conceptualizations of skillful movement with particular emphasis on the significance of context on the meaning of skillfulness. This examination will be framed by the following ideas: (a) skillfulness is broader than technical competency and the performance of the movement task; (b) in some contexts, Skillfulness may be counter to the disciplinary notions of effectiveness and efficiency; and (c) select principles of skillfulness transcend context. Practical examples will be provided to illustrate these ideas within the contexts of educational games, gymnastics, and dance. |
