Media Issues in Health Education
This workshop will explore two different media-related issues. The first part is an interactive session that will explore media literacy as a powerful tool that assists individuals in becoming critical thinkers about the media. Participants will explore a variety of media literacy techniques as well as participate in demonstrations of strategies suitable to classroom teaching. The second part of the workshop will explore strategies for interacting with the media, particularly when addressing controversial issues. Participants will develop a crisis management plan for dealing with media and will also get hands on experience answering difficult reporter/antagonist questions.
